Who is the Undergardener?
My name is Deborah Mason, in 2018 I moved to Maidenhead to look after my elderly mother. I set up a gardening business to supplement my always precarious income from creative endeavours! In 2021 I was forced to give up gardening for clients due to problems with my hands, I now have a great day job doing communications for a charity and continue to tend my own garden and my allotment. I took on the allotment two weeks before lockdown in 2020 and it’s been quite an adventure.
I’m passionate about the environment and try to do my gardening work in the most environmentally sensitive way. My garden has achieved a Gold in the Wild Maidenhead Wild About Gardens Awards for three years running. I am experimenting with the latest environmentally friendly methods of fruit and veg production at my allotment and you can follow my progress here and on my YouTube channel and via my instagram account @DebDaveMason (although you will also get quite a lot of art and dogs with that one!).
I volunteer for Wild Maidenhead on their 10% Wild project (making local parks 10% wild) and have created planting plans for Kidwells Park and Bailey Close. I believe that wild life and planet friendly gardening can be achieved whilst also maintaining your own garden style.
In 2020 I completed and passed the RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture Certificate.
